Hi to all! Been awhile since I've been on… After our last get-together with the (almost) traditional 'Capture the Flag', Turnip came up with an alternative…

Do any of you know the game 'Sharks and Minnows'? Well, Turnip calls it 'Rangers and Skandians'. One person is the Skandian, the rest are Rangers. We do this in a marked area (boundaries) so it doesn't take all day. The area, of course, has lots of cover - trees, bushes, etc. The Rangers go from Point A to Point B (usually back and forth). The Skandian tries to tag the Rangers; and every one that he tags becomes a Skandian slave (in other words, another Skandian). These new Skandians also try to tag more Rangers - until it gets down to one Ranger, who is then recognized as a 'master' Ranger!

This game has definitely improved everyone's stealth skills! Also, the younger kids actually take their time and think about what they are doing. Rangers have collaborated - with one being the 'decoy' so the others can get past the Skandian(s) - great for building teamwork!

So next time you have a Ranger meet, invite the families to join in, and have a game! Great fun for all (even if they're not into Rangers so much)!
