I've mentioned it on another thread here, but apparently not too far from Indianapolis, in Muncie, IN, is a bar called The Heorot which is said to have a great atmosphere and a great selection of beers.

Sadly here in Edmonton there are plenty of pubs and some may have an irish feel but few are designed like an old pub and those that are not small or of the same feel. I would actually love to open a piub similar to the one listed above or the actual green dragon inn that is now open on the film site they used as Hobbiton in New Zealand. Being able to have an old pub full of rangers would be fantastic though

I know where my family is "Accidentally" driving through on our way to visit my sister in Arkansas...this fall. I'll let you all know when we'll be there. *wink*

That is very close to where my wife's parents live! I could be a player on this as well!

No clue...but she works at Arkansas State, so I'd imagine close-ish to there.

Bor's Hede is amazing. Absolutely worth the trip.

Seattle area has a *lot* of neat fantasy-ish stuff going on.

(The story I heard once upon a time is that the first artists tapped for the Magic card game were paid straight commission - and when the game went gangbusters back in the 90's, all of a sudden there were lots of crazy-rich nerds. Who did things like start up HEMA groups and all sorts of fantasy/medievalish crazy geekitude. )

That's funny Greg, Sarah and I ate at a place literally across the street from The Field a few years back (I'm from San Diego originally, and usually go back every so often to visit family), and all we could do was crack up over a reference to the show Father Ted (ten points to whoever gets it). Sadly, we didn't go in. I really wish now that we had.

Unfortunately for me, there really doesn't seem to be much of anything like that in Colorado. We've got Irish style pubs, English style pubs, etc. but mostly what we have are dive bars that slap a name like "Molly Malone's" on the front, and call themselves a "traditional Irish pub." There really isn't anything remotely resembling an old-world public house. For a short time I worked at an English style pub called the Cheshire Cat in the Denver the suburb of Arvada, and it was pretty authentic overall, except that it was set up in what was once a Victorian era house. It was cool, and had great atmosphere, but it was more akin to the English pubs of the early 20th Century than anything Tolkien might have dreamed up. Sadly, it went out of business though, and is now a Nepalese restaurant called the Yak and Yeti.

Seriously, I'd kill for a place with the kind of atmosphere you're talking about.

Are the waitresses dressed like Shirpa?
Can you get a little umbrella drink called the Bahama Lama?
Gives new possibilities to what you might get if you ask for a White Russian!
