The 50th Anniversary Edition is coming out next year.
They aren't going to do something dumb and call it "new next" or something like that are they?
I'm not sure.
I seem to remember them referring to it as the Anniversary Edition.
But that may just have been a convenient way to identify the new edition and not necessarily the official name.

OMG. Why can't they just stick to numbers like 6.0?
Life is a great adventure; if I live to be 10,000 years old, it won't be enough.

apparently it's not a complete new D&D, it's just additional rule sets and lore to be added to 5e and used along side it, might be worth checking that tho, I'm only going off what my friend said
Gimli: It's true you don't see many Dwarf-women. And in fact, they are so alike in voice and appearance, that they are often mistaken for Dwarf-men.
Aragorn: It's the beards.

Yeah, it's backwards compatible, so more of a 5.5 edition.

There is a whole mess going on with WoTC right now. The whole situation is kinda weird.
