waystations and a "ranger gathering"
waystations and a "ranger gathering"
So what would be necessary for a waystation? ie supplies, location ect.
And as to the second question.. A "Ranger Gathering" although rare and unique, would be held so as to see who was still alive, active, discuss threats and tactics, gear, and techniques and just get together face2face..
We are a spread out lot(and not a great number) So where would you chose to have such a gathering and what would you like to see happen at such a gathering?

What would I like to see at such a gathering?
Rangers and Mead. Lots of Mead.
I'd pick somewhere somewhat central to our ranger community, so everyone could travel a reasonable distance. For our community, I'd say Colorado seems pretty central and has some great terrain, but the majority of our members are on the east coast, so geographic points notwithstanding, I'd move the meeting point east, into the Appalachians, and have someone on that end pick an area with a diverse mix of mountains, deep woods, and rocky outcrops so we could find a suitable location to house all of us for a few days as a base camp.
As for what I'd like to see happen...
You pretty much nailed what would happen for a gathering in Middle Earth, I do believe. However, for OUR purposes, I would imagine we'd have several short day-treks planned, skirting out away from our base camp to spend a night impromptu elsewhere and such. There would be much clacking and rattling of wasters throughout the time spent together, as well as many arrows thudding into targets. One big fun camp out full of weapons training, shared ideas, and fun with friends.

Strictly looking at geographical calculations:
the average location based on the CONUS member information, if provided, puts the center of the group at Somerford, OH.
If these Lat/Long info are weighted according to number of posts, it does move westward to West York, IL
Now, Pete's 300+ and Gareth's 100+ posts do not factor due to lack of location info.

Near is the hour when the Lost should come forth, And the Grey Company ride from the North.

My son's are coming up to visit from PA and I'm getting married at the end of July, so I'm kinda booked for this summer!
Many evil things there are that your strong walls and bright swords do not stay.
You know little of the lands beyond your bounds.
Peace and freedom, do you say?
The North would have known them little but for us.

Aren't you quite the wanderer.Gareth wrote:Truth is I'll be in Wisconsin until the end of June. Then Hawaii for the summer. Then DC near the end of the year, so I think my lack of location shouldn't factor in at all, and I just realized that I'm rambling.
