Budget Authenticity: Caedmon's Stitch of the Week
Sewing knowledge can be gained. I have a lot of experience hand and machine sewing. In this post I'll be adding a historical hand sewing stitch each week. Please add comments to this post's sister thread: 'Comments/Discusion on Caedmon's Stitch of the Week'

Re: Dunedain Culture in a Nutshell
Please do not take from me a tone of judgement. My first ren faire persona featured a dayglow great kilt and a viking backstory. If it wasn't a few people gently pointing me to look to historical accuracy, I'd probably still be there. In my experience sewing issues, poor materials, and patterns have...

Re: Dunedain Culture in a Nutshell
I personally am most interested a high degree of fidelity to historic models. I don't generally get into thus sayeth/historical accuracy debates on this forum, and I believe that the best way to encourage is by example. But I'm feeling feisty, and I have a grudge against Joanne's. So since this is b...

Re: Hood Pattern
I have a hood with leaf dags..not oak but leaves. They are lovely, break up the line of the hood...and sometimes get in the way of the bowstring too. One of those cases where learning to live with your gear does the trick. They are very pretty hoods, no mistake. Mine also has a liripipe, which I wo...

Re: Some more questions...
As best as I can tell from both the dictionary and my Languages of M E book, "Naug" as you would expect is Dwarf or stunted. Like "Naugrim" or "Stunted People". "Thrain" means "Obstinate" and was the name of two Dwarven kings so my rather unique tit...

Re: Some more questions...
So I was pretty close on everything except the starting point for Amrod Rhandir, which I found out for myself when I got there! I didn't know there were even more ranks, though. So, I'm guessing that "Naugothrain" is a dwarven title? Yup, translates to erratic/wandering dwarf in Sindarin....

Re: Hood Pattern
But yeah, the dagged and crenalated ones always have caught my eye as well. I especially like the "oak leaf" dagging on a lot of period examples. Seems it'd be a lot of work, but it may pay off in the end if that's the look you want. And I usually go earlier period, before dagging of that...

Re: Some more questions...
One more quick question, please pardon my ignorance on this matter, but I was not sure what the title "Amrod Rhandir" was? Was wondering when people were gonna ask... Here are the ranks, translations (mostly from the Sindarin) and how they are achieved. Athel Dunedain: Lord of the Dunedai...

Re: New Forums
*no direction is implied by this post just musing and testing the waters* So when we started, I had the feeling that non-Reenactment interests had their own places all around the 'net, and our focus was specific. But there are more of us now, and the dynamic is different. It seems like a lot of us h...

History of the Middle Earth Ranger Forum
In looking to the future and contemplating new Forum boards, I began to wonder how much new members know about how the history of this forum and the group's original intent. This Forum was started as a new kind of way at looking Tolkien fandom/enthusiasm, especially in reference to the Dunedain. Rec...

Re: New Forums
OOOORRRRRRRR.. since the Inn at Bree seems to already sort of do that.. why not put a description on that forum and make IT the new forum. Never really new what the Inn forum was for .. no description for it.. The original idea for the Inn was as a generic placeholder for people doing other reenact...
