Did you get the emails I sent with the boot info?

You know, it's like I've said on my site, better to get out and move around with what you have than to wait until you have a complete period kit. For all of us, having a modern day life keeps us from being able to do nothing but work on our kit or skills. I'm in Germany about to move to Colorado. Andy

The Sodhoppers boots I have are Bison and I don't think that leather would take beeswax well. Like Mike said, it's the design, namely the bottom seam that lets the water in. If you completely seal a boot the moisture and fungus and all other bad things will collect. Leather boots won't wick away moi...

Who's been in the woods...

...or is going?

Once the packers take all my house hold goods next week (minus what we keep out for hold baggage that gets picked up and sent just before we fly) I'd like to get some time in the woods. Paul Champagne is coming over in June and we will surely have some Ranger time.

Hey hesinraca

The boots I made for myself were with deer tanned cow hide lined with pigskin. They are suprisingly water proof.

I started out with a pair of Sodhoppers and like Mike said, they are very easy to walk in but due to the upper/topsole seam, they will take in water.

I like the oilskin. This is a 3/4 oilskin cloak with hood that goes about half way down my calves and it works well as a temporary shelter. I stayed dry in a moderate storm.

Hey All, Like Hereward said, you tailor your kit for the job. A Ranger can always wander around with either a bow, a spear, and/or an axe and not look like he's headed off on an Orc raiding party. All three of these weapons are generally effective against unarmored as well as maille and leather armo...

My flat bow is from Tom at Ancient Archery. They're not cheap in price but it is a fast and accurate bow. It's 75lb, rawhide backed hickory.

What Great posts...

Hey all,

I've just started going through all the post here. It seems that most of us are thinking the same on a lot of subjects. I can't wait to get to Colorado and actually get in the woods with some of you.

Hygiene in the field is a key factor in staying healthy. Especially, as Mike said, foot maintenance and also taking care of little wounds so they don't become big wounds. True, you don't want an artificial scent on you, but you will always have a human scent to the animals. Orcs hunted down Elves an...

Hey Eric, Send me a detailed email of what you've done so far. I'll help you step by step. I'll send you my actual foot trace along with my final upper and topsole patterns. Those will give you a good idea of the shape needed. Just got back from a well needed vacation with the family. We have househ...

Hey All

Thanks for everything Jack. I got back not tool long ago and I'm still settling in. I like this forum a lot. I can't wait to get back into the woods. The site needs a fresh look. I'm moving to Colorado Springs in early July. Leaving the Shire for the White Mountains! We'll most likely live in Woodla...
