Don't forget a ground cloth of some type. You have to have a barrier between you and the ground. I made one of heavy canvas with a pocket sewn that I slid a piece of oil cloth into. In cold weather I'll slide in a piece of wool or even shearling. It weighs a ton compared to the therma-rest ground pa...

I prefer the dual back-pack straps as Peter mentioned with the quiver canted just enough to clear the neck/head. That way if you're in the prone you can look up without hitting the back of your head on your arrows. I also use shearling to hold the arrows still and quiet. I made a few broadhead sheat...

Eric I know what you mean about owning a house. This moved kicked my butt. It's great that you like it and I assume your family likes it too. It's a good feeling giving that security to your family. We knew we would eventually own, but we purposely held off until we knew we were in an area we would ...

I've worked on this. The basic Army patrolling hand & arm signals is a good base. STOP, FREEZE, ENEMY, DANGER AREA, RALLY POINT are good starters. I can download them on pdf and post the pages of the manual itself and will try to get in kit and have some pics taken demonstrating them. Things to ...

Pete, That sounds functional. Making sturdy functional gear for Rangers is one of the primary reasons for starting my web site but I have yet to have the time to do so. Fortunetly you Peter have helped several guys with their kit. I think that is great. I really can't wait to make something for some...

Thanks Mike,

You and/or Pete need to show some pics of what he's made for you.

Hey Mike,

What's a good source for a buckler? I'm going to try and start I:33 with a local group.

Hey all from Colorado

Sorry for dropping off the radar. The move was a constant 100mph but we now own a house, kids are about to start school and I actually start back to work week after next. We've got a 2+ acre lot up here in Woodland Park. We receive the last delivery of house-hold goods on tuesday which should have m...

I.33

A few days after having asked Mike what I.33 meant, a copy of "Medieval Sword and Shield" shows up at my house. It was brought by Paul Champagne who came over for a week before I move back stateside. Once I get settled in a bit I'll probably find a group or seminar hosting I.33. Tolkien's ...

Are they actual riding boots that you wore hiking. And what was forcing you to go 16 miles on an open wound?

Good point,

I've learned first hand and from research that taking care of your primitive gear is vital. As long as the threat level allows you to go Hobbit, I would advise keeping the footgear dry.

Hey Eric, Almost any weight will work. I've some some with lighter weight that I then reinforced with strips of heavy stuff. If you use real heavy, ie 12oz, it will probably need some work to get it shaped. Over time, the normal wear and sweat will help shape it. I'll try calling this weekend refere...

I glued a leather midsole on my boots. I then had a shoe shop put on a rubber sole that has a slight texture on the bottom. Not enough to keep me from taking some very Un-Ranger like falls, especially being used to Vibram soles most of my career. I have gotten used to the soles. The reality is that ...
