Re: So it begins
HEADED OUT TOMORROW! 5 days, 4 night with woods and waterfalls. I've got about a 15 mile loop in the Cohutta Wilderness. All my gear is made. Tonight is packing and baking journey cakes. Wish me luck. I'll have a lot to update when I return.

Re: Leather Wrap Gaunlets.
Remember when I was talking about mixing modern day shoes with a leather leg wrap? THIS is what I was talking about; similar to his gloves/gauntlets. A point where them merge together seemless (more or less). Skill Tree also has a video about converting modern boots. It might be helpful. I've been ...

Re: Leather Wrap Gaunlets.
I might have to do a little tutorial on the buckles. For being just bent and hammered copper electric wire, they work very well. No soldering or anything.

Leather Wrap Gaunlets.
I made some simple wrap gauntlets for about $10! These were inspired by this Skill Tree video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BJSc67kDOU Start with some cheap leather gloves from Harbor Freight and cut off the fingers. You'll need to restitch the ends of the seams to keep them from unraveling. The...

Re: Waxed Canvas Bedroll/Hammock
I believe that's the same pack that Cortharyn had seriously fail his first testing on facebook (though I could be mistaken) I went and found that post on the facebook group. Yikes. Torn in half. Well I do have a sewing/repair kit. haha. So far I've been taking it out on day hikes with a partial load.

Re: Mae Govannen from Georgia, USA!
but sadly not in persona since it's for a bach party. You're hanging out with the wrong crowd. At a Ren Fair bachlor party garb is required and guaranteed to be even wilder! haha! Maybe we should meet in the middle at Stone Mountain sometime. Perhaps get together a Georgia Moot. I know there is ano...

Re: So, I got a log...
Do you have a hand drill or auger? Great for drilling a bunch of holes close together and then chipping out the rest. I've never done anything as large as a canoe, but it works well for cups, bowls, boxes, etc. Burning out as Eofor suggested is also a very traditional method. Multiple, low, controll...

Re: Mae Govannen from Georgia, USA!
Mae Govannen from Georgia as well! I'm in Atlanta (Dunwoody). I'm new here as well. Been planning my first trip for a few months and it's happening next week! I'm headed to the Cohutta Wilderness in North Georgia for a 4 night trek.

Re: Waxed Canvas Bedroll/Hammock
So the bedroll weighs about 5 pounds. Bedroll, blanket, tarp, rope, stakes, etc, I'm looking at about 15 lbs for my camp setup. Not exactly ultralight. I should note, I'm not doing a snapsack, but rather an adventurer's pack. This one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09YXXJ34K/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_sea...

Re: Waxed Canvas Bedroll/Hammock
I’ve been trying to figure out a good hammock setup for a month and this is brilliant, how heavy is it/ how bulky is it? With nothing else in it, like my wool blanket, I rolled this up to a cylinder about 6 inch diameter and 2 ft long. If you don't fold in the sides and left it 3 ft long it'd obvio...

Re: FINALLY Fleshing Out a Persona
Okay, so I’ve been doing this hobby in one form or another for like a dozen years now, but one of the things I have avoided for a long long time is actually fleshing out a persona. This gives me comfort. I've only been doing this a few months. I'm busy enough getting gear together, good to know I d...

Waxed Canvas Bedroll/Hammock
So, I spent about 6 hours yesterday just waxing stuff. I present my new bedroll hammock! http://i.imgur.com/4K8BfGgl.jpg I started with a 3 ft by 15 ft canvas and basically turned it into a sleeping bag. The bottom section is completely wax. The top sheet section is splotchy because wax seeped throu...

Re: A Dwarven Sword? What do you think of this?
All very good advice to consider. I'm going to hold off for now. If I do get it in the future, it definitely needs some work. New sheath, leather wrap over or replace the micarta handle, brass etching, etc. Right now I'm focused on getting camping gear together for my upcoming trip. As far as weapon...
