Re: Anyone ever try posca?

I've done cold herbal teas - usually mint and sage - but I don't know if I've tried this before. I've got a short hike scheduled this Monday, so I'll give it a try then.

Re: What's everyone working on?

Making an oilcloth was on my list for this summer but I haven't gotten round to it yet either. To be honest I'm a bit afraid of working with boiled linseed oil. Recently I tried rigging up a chiton from a bedsheet I bought at a thrift store. I wasn't very happy with the results yet: I found it too l...

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures

Iodo, when I took the bonnet off at the end of my outing it did indeed feel hot on top. I did wear it along with my full Highland kit (such as it is so far) to the Payson Scottish Festival on July 9: that was a very hot day and though the heat did cook up some clouds, we were in the hot sun for a lo...

Re: Some modest musical morsels

I tried putting "Lebennin" in Lydian mode. I think I like it better this way. Here's a sketch of it. https://soundcloud.com/studentofrhythm/lebennin-lydian-mode-sketch?utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing Also I wrote a little song I'm calling "Dorw...

Re: The battle of Framsburg

I too would love to hear this declaimed - even sung, perchance?

Having attempted alliterative verse, I know it's hard to do on its own, let alone including the kennings for the full archaic Germanic flavor. I salute you.

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures

Togon, these pictures delight me. Your landscape reminds me of my own. I took a short stroll onto Mahogany Mountain this morning and the grass is yellow, with green still showing in sagebrush and especially scrub oak: https://i.imgur.com/vhKhax0.jpg I didn't have time to follow the trail up onto the...

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures

Cortharyn, your pictures did my heart good. One day I will build up a nice complete kit. Meanwhile, I had a chance to go a little further up Provo Canyon today and I had an early picnic lunch at Bridal Veil Falls, an extremely popular - and often crowded - spot. It's easily accessible by the highway...

No wonder we Americans are so obsessed with Scotland, with scenery like that! Keep it up, I love to see what you share.

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures

This past weekend I went with some family on an overnight hike. Y Mountain overlooks Utah Valley. It gets its name from a big letter Y on its side, put there as an emblem for Brigham Young University. Hiking up to the Y is a popular pastime among the locals. It's about a mile up to the Y and very st...

Re: A Rangers diet; Cuisine in Tolkiens world

On a couple of my lunch break picnics I have cooked a porridge that I like to call "Ranger Burgoo." It's coarse-ground oats and dried peas. Usually I cook my oatmeal with rosemary and sage, and I earnestly recommend that you all try that. For this "burgoo" I've been mixing in Kno...

Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures

Cute piggies! They look too mellow to be javelinas, am I right? And that bread looks like bannock/pan de campo. I'm guessing southeast US?

A cherry wood bow sounds lovely!

Re: Some modest musical morsels

Here's another tune on my mountain dulcimer, which I'm calling "Lebennin." I think it could use another section, but this is what I have for now.
