Re: MERF Random Adventure Pictures

In my sleep-befuddled mind I could have sworn you said "orcs" and not "crocs" and spent several minutes scanning the background trying to figure out where.

Re: Detachable Spear Heads - Feasible?

Again, glad to know that I'm not completely off my rocker! Well, it was certainly done historically, as Hurstwic has demonstrated: A passage from chapter 48 of Grettis saga suggests that the rivet could easily be removed with whatever tools people normally carried with them. Grettir arrived at...

Re: Custom Pipkin

That's amazing. I love the leaf/arrowhead design! I am looking to make my kit both more functional and beautiful like that. Looks like I might have to hit your guy up as well. Just need to learn how to use a pipkin first!

Detachable Spear Heads - Feasible?

So weaponry isn't really my forte (aside from my bow) and truth be told, in the real world when I go hiking a sword seems for trouble than its worth. Man in a cloak hiking = eccentric. Man in a cloak carrying a sword = time to alert the real park rangers. So I had the thought of perhaps disguising a...

Re: Rangers report!

Both my wife and myself are essential workers so we've been staying busy in the real world. Pulling 50+ hours a week though can quickly get tiring though. Luckily, my job takes me outside in the fresh sunshine (and oppressive heat) so that's nice. And we're able to spread out in a social dista...

Re: Persona Concept: Cimrandir...Dunedain Archaelogist?

Avoiding the label of hodharph the People of Arnor once buried their kings in the tombs so cleansing them could be part of securing the new Kingdom in the North. I don't think it's unreasonable that Cimrandir as a Iorengollon would possess a greater knowledge of wights and other creatures that lurk...

Re: Persona Concept: Cimrandir...Dunedain Archaelogist?

I'd agree that anything we recognize in our era as a formalized archeology would be cultrally quite foreign to Middle-earth. Archeology even as Schliemann might recognize it is at the long end of a confluence of streams from Enlightnment era philosophy/natural history, sufficient hegemonic power to...

Re: Elvish names again

Apologies for the late response but I might have a bit of a lead if you are still working on this project. I am not in any way a linguistics expert or fluent in Elvish but I know where to go for help! The fine folks at Parf Edhellen and their discord channel Vinyë Lambengolmor are very knowledgeabl...

Re: Persona Concept: Cimrandir...Dunedain Archaelogist?

Thank you very much for the feedback everyone! I like the outline so far. If you were to story write, I'd suggest hiring dwarf diggers for a found site. At least have some smaller tools for gem/wood and stone work. See Iodo's tinker's tool set up for some inspiration: http://www.middleearthrangers.o...

Persona Concept: Cimrandir...Dunedain Archaelogist?

Don't call it a comeback - I've been here for years. Hey guys, long time no see. While I wouldn't often log in, I've never forgotten the folks here at MERF and I would often wander over here to check out the latest happenings. Life is slowly stabilizing for me and honestly now that I'm no longer a y...

Re: Rangers Apprentice Stuff

I really lost interest in the series after the final* book came out for a very specific reason. I won't spoil it here but it has to do with a certain character's fate. I don't care how mature and realistic you want to be Mr. Flanagan, that is not the ending to make me happy. I know the feelings of o...

Re: PJ's lack of Preperation

Being honest, I've only really seen the first Hobbit movie. I watched probably about half or so of the second (I literally kept dozing off. That's never happened to me before while watching a movie. It was that boring.) Haven't even tried to watch the third yet. I might get around to it someday but ...
